SLO Supervisor Race, Adam Hill’s Record

So when faced with a choice of who to vote for, all I really care about is that the person will vote for things and be an advocate for issues that I think are important. How many of use sit down and have a drink with elected officials? It doesn’t matter if you want to have a beer with them because in truth 99% of us will never meet these people. The best we can get out of elected officials is a promise they’ll vote. That’s why Adam Hill should be re-elected as SLO County Supervisor.

Of all the people I’ve seen serve on the SLO County Board of Supervisors, Adam Hill has been the best advocate for good, left-leaning policy, as well as a more “middle of the road” sort of approach to dealing with issues. I’ve read a couple far left liberals say Adam Hill isn’t liberal enough… but as is usually the case with people on either extreme of political ideology, they have no solution. All they do is complain, which if people listen to them would result in yet another Tea Party person on the BOS, which would be exponentially worse. Democrats need to get their act together and start working as a group rather than complaining all the time. All complaining does is get more republicans elected. Continue reading

Why We Vote (Because Many People Have Forgotten)

I’m basically a liberal…… can you hear the boos and hisses from the right wing? Saying you’re a liberal is about all it takes to be a target of their ire these days. Yes, I’m a liberal and a registered democrat. I vote for an independent or a republican when I think their policies fit how I believe “things should be run”, but all in all, most of my votes go towards democrats, because generally their policy positions are in line with what I believe. Yes… I actually look at voting records and policy positions. Call be crazy, but as you’ll see I think that’s the whole darn point of electing a person to office.

That’s also where we have a big problem with politics in San Luis Obispo County….. I suppose in a lot of places throughout America where democrats are losing seats to the right from the left and center. All those in charge, living large, or those who are comfortable with their fat pensions have forgotten why we vote! I’m not kidding. The actual purpose of what an elected person is supposed to do. Of course…. republicans forgot that long ago. They just vote for whichever candidate can build the biggest facade of being a tough guy. “Big strong man. I’m strong vote for me I’m strong, arg! America!” They vote strictly with their guts and ego. But democrats are also beginning to vote more with their emotions and less with their brains. That’s a major problem in San Luis Obispo County in particular. Continue reading

Why This Website

I don’t like politics. I hate the shouting match that it has become. I live in San Luis Obispo, and in the last 4 or 5 years I’ve seen that sort of “the loudest people win” philosophy all but totally take over local politics. I’m sick of it. I’m all for people having different opinions, but what’s basically become the mob take-over of local meetings and even officials is sad.

SLO Board of SupervisorsI like Adam Hill. Yes, with his east coast roots he can be aggressive in a way that SLO Town doesn’t understand, but I’m also from the east coast so it doesn’t bother me. He’s made some mistakes with that Jersey attitude. He’s admitted that. But you know what? So have I and so have you. What makes me so angry is that “The Shouters” for lack of a better term have targeted him relentlessly for years now. They want the noise of their own anger overwhelm the fact that, you know what, our supervisors get a lot of work done, and that includes Adam Hill, who it can be argued has done more than most. So that’s why this dumb blog that probably no one will read anyway, but like most people, I have no more say that my vote, which doesn’t seem to county as much as it used to. Continue reading
